This week’s I am the Diva Challenge isย “Amanda Day/Earth Day (Round 4!)”ย With so many inspiring previous iterations of this challenge, I thought I’d try to take a “Seasons by Moonlight” approach, using a black Zendala tile, white gel pen and a couple of green/silver accents. Conceptually, representing the four seasons and highlighting the evening hours of Earth Day (and honoring the “turn out your lights for one hour” movement) was a good idea. It got away from me, though, and this hot mess resulted:
But ALAS! I am a CZT now! I don’t see mistakes, I see opportunities! To…start over. With a lighter tile and a lighter hand, I approached this as an homage to sun and rain and the gifts they bring. Tangles included Diva Dance (Rock n’ Roll), Msst, Grass Border, Henna Drum and my own wreath of leaves. I am much happier with this outcome. I toyed with adding color but decided I’d already been too heavy-handed on the last one…and my best bet? KISS.
Can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with on this one!
I encourage and appreciate sharing!:
Cari, I see we were both attracted to the Diva Dance—Rock n’ Roll version. Somehow, I made it all the way to the CZT #18 training without being aware of that one although I had already added the “regular” Diva Dance to my tangle repertoire. I like both your Earth Day tiles. Working on black is not easy and I still need lots of practice.
Thank you! I think the CZT seminar left us with Diva Dance Rock n’ Roll version. Appreciate the encouragement. The black tiles are a challenge but I am determined to win.
Congrats on being a CZT!! I actually love the first tile – I think it rocks!! And the 2nd is also lovely!! Great concepts!! ๐

Thank you, Diane!
I like the first, but love the second tile!!!
Thank you, Annemarie!
Very nice ๐
Thanks, Lily!
Well I like BOTH of these. I can see why you feel the black one is messy but I don’t agree. It’s freeform and whimsical and it represents what it was meant to. The lighter one is more to my taste because I love Henna Drum and your circle of it is just perfect. Congratulations on becoming a CZT, by the way.
Thank you so much!
Both tiles are gorgeous! Love the work in a round rendering…and the black is challenging, but the contrast always makes a person sit up and take notice.
Thanks so much, Lynell. I’m hard on myself on those black tiles, but it’s nice to hear that someone appreciates them a bit ๐
Congratulations! I like both tiles, but if I had to choose, I would go for the second one ๐
Thanks, Ilse! I’m right there with you!
Both of your pieces are incredible! You have a great eye for composition when using your tangles! Beautiful drawings! Sarah
Wow, thank you so much Sarah!!
First grats on becoming a CZT! I’ve read thats actually quite a bit of work, so great job. ๐
great tiles. I have to admit I like the lighter one a little better. Very pretty designs.
Thanks! It’s a lot of work but I loved every moment. And I’m partial to that one too ๐
Two wonderful tiles. Congratulations on CZT.
Thank you muchly ๐
I love your black tile. It reminds me of the night sky. You do such beautiful tiles – it’s like the tangles just flow from your pen. Inspirational!
Debi, thank you. I am humbled by your compliment and inspired to keep going!
I am in love with your Earth Day Homage, it’s so delicate and just amazingly beautiful. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing it!
Becky, thank you, thank you, thank YOU for looking and for your kind words!!
